Hampton pumping station back online
The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) repaired the well floor at the Hampton Pumping Station, but customers in the catchment area may still experience outages.
The well floor at the station collapsed last Thursday when a crew was attempting to repair damaged equipment. No one was hurt, but the BWA said customers from Kendal, Christ Church to Ragged Point, St Philip would be affected, as four million gallons of water would be out of the distribution network.
The repair work was completed on Monday night, and while pumping has resumed, it will be at a reduced capacity, and customers can expect intermittent supply or outages.
Meanwhile, the BWA said emergency electrical work was being carried out at the Waterford Station and this may result in low pressure for customers in parts of St James and St Thomas. The estimated down time was about two hours.
Although the remaining pumping stations are working, districts at higher elevations in St Andrew and St Joseph may still suffer outages due to low levels at the pumping facility sending water to their areas.
The BWA said the tanker service would be deployed to affected customers. (PR/SAT)
