L.T. Gay closes early for second time this week
THREE YEARS AFTER environmental issues forced the closure of Lawrence T. Gay Memorial Primary School, similar matters caused staff and children to leave early yesterday for the second time this week.
For several months in early 2016, students of the Spooner’s Hill, St Michael school were relocated to the Breath of Life Seventh-day Adventist Church in White Hall; the Sarah Ann Gill Methodist Church in Fairfield, and the Grace Hill Moravian Church in Spooner’s Hill, all in St Michael, after staff and students complained of itchy skin and a noxious ordor.
It closed around noon, with parents saying they were called to collect their children due to environmental problems, though many said they were in the dark as to exactly what was going on. This occurred following the previous half-day closure on Monday.
Barbados Union of Teachers vice-president Richmark Cave said it was past time the problem was resolved.
