Gender consultant Patricia Hackett-Codrington is urging the church to help victims of domestic violence through financial support as well as education from the pulpit.

She told a gathering of Wesleyan Holiness Christians that domestic violence is a major problem in Barbados which affects children’s lives and ought to be tackled year-round.

“Domestic violence impacts lots of homes. Take action to assist,” she told the congregation at Cave Hill Wesleyan Holiness Church, Cave Hill, St Michael, where she was invited to speak on the topic: Is Domestic Violence An Epidemic?

Hackett-Codrington, a retired chief community officer, said domestic abuse was affecting families in the “heights and the terraces,” but was incorrectly perceived as a working class issue. (HH)
