One of the enduring tributes to the late attorney Beverley Lady Walrond will be a dedicated family court that is scheduled to be set up next month.

This morning, Walrond’s close friend and legal colleague Dawn Shields-Searles expressed regret that the family law advocate, who tirelessly campaigned for this, would not be around to see the fruits of her labour.

In her tribute at this morning’s funeral service for Lady Walrond who died tragically two weeks ago, Shields-Searle said her late friend was “meticulous and fearless in representing her clients and was chosen by a lot of family law clients to handle their cases”.

Acting Governor General Sir Kenneth Hewitt, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson and scores of people from the legal and medical professions were among the many attending the service at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Lady Walrond’s widower and husband of over 40 years, Sir Errol Walrond, sat stoically listening to the tributes by Shields-Searle, his daughter Maya Johnston and Lady Walrond’s cousin from Jamaica, Dr Wayne Reid.  (GC)
