A month after a shelter for homeless people was due to open in The City, those seeking accommodation will finally be able to access the service from next Monday.

This was confirmed by Kemar Saffrey, president of the Barbados Alliance to End Homelessness, formerly the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society, as he gave an update on the building located on Spry Street which will accommodate up to 90 people nightly.

“We’re operating from the building but we had to wait on one or two legal documents to be finished and we’re finalising some things now. But the shelter will be available to the public from Monday,” he said in an interview with the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday.

However, Saffrey said they were still serving clients with their feeding programme, and assisting them with counselling and access to services, including welfare and job searches. (RA)
