Fears over Hyatt beach access

Barbadians are voicing fears that development planned for the Bay Street/Carlisle Bay corridor may restrict their access to the popular Browne’s Beach.

This was among concerns raised at Thursday night’s town hall meeting to discuss the Environmental Impact Assessment for the proposed Hyatt Ziva Hotel at Copacabana Beach Club on Bay Street, The City.

Though the turnout at this second Hyatt Town Hall meeting was sparse,  voices of dissension about beach access and other aspects of the project were loud.

In an impassioned presentation, one of the most vocal members of the audience, visual artist Annalee Davis, told the developers: “This is a very important beach for Barbadians historically. There are not lots of places for Barbadians to go and play and if this is the beginning of more to come, this beach is going to become inaccessible.” (GC)
