FOR a change, the results did not matter. It was more about the concept of a day/night weekend student sports event that made this year’s edition of the Ifill School track championships a memorable show for athletes and parents.

Following the historic day/night trail blazed by the St Michael School last year, Ifill School put on a sports meet at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex on Saturday that stretched from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Parents and guardians, led by calypsonian Crystal Cummins-Beckles and Lydia Simmons, the mother of dazzling 12-year-old quarter-miler Ashlyn Simmons, were lavish in their praise for Ifill School, who are now only the second school to embrace the day/night concept.

“I think it is fantastic. The atmosphere is really nice. It gives parents the chance to come out and support their children. I would like to see more schools come on board with this initiative,” said Beckles, the stepmother of six-year-old Aria Holder of Hindsbury Primary.
