That’s what Barbadians can prepare for in 2020, as Barbados is faced with what is expected to be a prolonged dry spell that may be accompanied by record high temperatures.
Bajans ran into hardware stores to purchase fans or air-conditioners as daily temperatures of 33 and 34 degrees Celsius became the norm in the second half of 2019.
According to a scientist based at the Caribbean Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), those conditions could remain in 2020.
Climatologist at the CIMH, Dr Cedric Van Meerbeeck, said last year’s conditions could be attributed to the El Niño effect which had significantly decreased. Van Meerbeeck was speaking during a press conference staged by CIMH at its Husbands, St James headquarters on Friday. (BA)
