Plenty ideas for Speightstown

Both students and adults have made passionate pleas for a revitalisation of Speightstown as a cultural hub, including possible designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The calls came on Wednesday night during the Ideas Forum: Future Barbados – Speightstown A Heritage, Arts & Cuisine Hub held at Alexandra School in St Peter, part of the We Gatherin’ initiative.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley heard Coleridge & Parry fifth former Zareke Thompson recommend initiatives towards the global heritage designation.

He also asked for more social activities and entertainment, a suggestion that was supported by several residents and students from Alexandra and Coleridge & Parry.

They called for displays of artistic work, and use of the former Alma Parris School as a centre for culinary arts and other training.
