Priest’s caution on murder impact
A priest yesterday gave the chilling warning that with four killings in about a month, Barbados is at a similar rate to 2019’s record murders, or possibly worse.
Senator Reverend John Rogers also cautioned about the dangers of “over-tourism” and the need to find the soul of the country.
He was speaking in the Senate on a resolution to acquire land at Harrismith, St Philip, for housing and tourism development.
He stressed that without careful consideration for citizens, the money invested in tourism could come to naught.
The Independent senator referenced the record 49 murders for last year and the four this year, stating it could have an impact on the very revenue-dependent tourism if visitors began to feel unsafe. (AC)
