Follow the lead of the St Michael Cougars and take up the baton!
The St Michael School’s (SMS) head athletics coach Gabriel Burnett has urged other secondary schools to stage their annual athletics championships under floodlights.
“People keep saying we are trailblazers but we just made the best of a situation that we were put in [last year],” Burnett told Sunsport on Friday night as he recalled the circumstances which led to the successful switch to a day/night event at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.
“Yes, I would love more schools to do it. It is really cool. It is a great atmosphere and you can see by the amount of people that come in and enjoyed the sports, that they had a good time,” he said.
Following last year’s historic event, the first time a secondary school held its sports at night, more than 4 000 spectators converged at the Lazaretto, St Michael venue on Friday evening. (EZS)
