BARBADOS’ Under-20 women’s team faced a baptism of fire yesterday in their first-ever knockout game in the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship.

They were hammered 12-0 by a rampant Haiti in a Round of 16 clash at the Estadio Panamericano in the Dominican Republic,

Haiti entered the match as the second-highest scorers from the group stage of the tournament, notching 22 goals while conceding none, and the Bajans faced a daunting task.

Barbados reached the Round of 16 after placing third in Qualifying Group B in St Kitts last July.

This followed Concacaf’s announcement on January 13 that Costa Rica and Panama had automatically qualified for the 2020 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup as hosts and would no longer participate in the 2020 Concacaf Women’s U20 Championship.
