GEORGETOWN – Minister of Public Health Volda Lawrence on Thursday confirmed that over 14 doctors and nurses at the Georgetown Hospital have been ordered into self-quarantine, following the death of a 52-year-old woman at the institution.

Speaking on a local radio show, Lawrence also said that family members of the dead woman and others who may have been in contact with her have also been ordered into self-quarantine.

The quarantine is in keeping with the protocols of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

While stating that the ministry of health has put all systems in place to address the situation, she said the absence of the doctors and nurses in quarantine will now have an impact on the operations of the hospital  but the Ministry of Public Health is serious about safeguarding its workers and other people with whom they might be in contact.

The Ministry of Public Health has set up a hotline for persons to call if they believe they have symptoms of the coronavirus or may have questions.

She added that people need to be truthful with information they provide to health professionals during visits.
