Okay for sick day ease

There are plans to stretch the mandatory two sick days to seven without a doctor’s certificate.

But that will only be triggered if Barbados reaches Stage Three of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The country is currently at Stage Zero as there are no confirmed cases of the virus in Barbados, one of the first countries in the Caribbean with the capacity to test for it. The symptoms include a high fever, coughing, sneezing and respiratory problems.

Yesterday, Senior Medical Officer Dr Arthur Philips, in a discussion with the management of the major media houses, explained that measure by the National Insurance Scheme – in the event the virus is confirmed in the island – would take some of the strain off the health system.
