Schools will remain open for the time being and the Ministry of Education is preparing for the Common Entrance Examination even though the COVID-19 situation remains fluid.

Those were among the issues addressed by Minister Santia Bradshaw earlier today during an education consultation on COVID-19 that was streamed via YouTube.

Bradshaw said they would continue to rely on the medical expertise before deciding to close the schools.

She said her Ministry was also preparing for the annual secondary schools’ entrance examination, which is scheduled to be held on May 5. Bradshaw said it could be staggered for a week.

Schools closed at noon today to facilitate the virtual meeting.

The Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies and Ross University have already closed their operations.

Barbados recorded its first two cased of COVID-19 yesterday and up to the 5 p.m. update by Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic and acting chief medical officer, Dr Anton Best, no new cases were announced. (GBM/SAT)
