Shoppers rush to stock up

While people were not surprised when it was announced yesterday morning that Barbados had recorded its first two cases of COVID-19, they were stunned at the long lines that greeted them at some supermarkets.

When a MIDWEEK NATION team visited Massy Stores Supermarket in Holetown, St James, Popular Discounts at Kendall Hill, Christ Church, and Cherish in The City, shoppers, some of whom wore face masks and gloves, admitted they were extremely concerned about the situation.

However, some people reported they were just doing their routine shopping.

Small business owner Greg Alleyne said the lines at the Christ Church store reminded him of holiday shopping. (TG)
