The People’s Party for Democracy and Development (PDP) has called for personal protective equipment (PPE) for front-line workers and price controls on key items to avoid price gouging.

These were some of the issues the group focused on during a press conference at Worthing Corporate Centre, Worthing, Christ Church, yesterday.

Paul Gibson, PdP’s spokesman for health and wellness, said frontline workers such as police officers, imimigration officers and nurses need to have PPEs, especially as the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has reached Barbados.

Minister of Health and Wellness Jeffrey Bostic announced the first two confirmed cases this week and the total is now at seven. One of the positive tests was facilitated for a cruise ship.

Gibson said the PdP gets regular calls from front-line workers about protective equipment not coming in a timely fashion, and the opposition group is providing as much information as possible.

He also said the indigent and homeless should be given instructions on how to take care of themselves in relation to COVID-19.

Gibson cautioned young people to maintain good personal hygiene, including washing their hands regularly and wiping off their cell phones. (KG)
