PM rolls out plan

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley last night rolled out several initiatives expected to help Barbados keep its head above water in the battle with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Parts of the plan allow for employees within the important tourism industry, who have been laid off as a result of reduced revenue, to earn 60 per cent of wages for unproductive days should they have to work short weeks.

It also gave employers a waiver on contributions to the National Insurance Scheme once they retained at least 75 per cent of their workforce.

Banks have agreed to start a six-month moratorium on loans and mortgage payments so as to reduce the pain many citizens could face through the spread of the virus. (BA)
