Sandals Resorts has joined hotels in Barbados feeling the squeeze from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

It is about to close the doors of its two local properties – Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal – which have about 1 200 workers.

The closure not only affects Barbados but all of the Sandals and Beaches Resorts in the Caribbean from March 30 to May 15.

Sandals founder and chairman Gordon “Butch” Stewart, in a statement to staff, said it was a “move to safeguard the safety and health of its valued guests and team members in the wake of the spread of the novel coronavirus disease”. (NS/PR)
