Bynoe: Aim to protect staff and shoppers
The owner of Carlton and A1 and Emerald City Supermarkets says his company is going all out to ensure the safety of staff and customers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with strict adherence to social distancing.
That was the promise from managing director Andrew Bynoe after several shoppers found Emerald City Supermarket in Six Roads, St Philip, closed around 7 a.m. yesterday.
Workers had expressed concerns about their safety should the supermarket be filled with shoppers.Emerald City usually opens at 6:30 a.m., and the employees walked off the job at 6:40 a.m., only returning to their posts hours later, which significantly affected breakfast customers. (BA/JS)
