If there is one small silver lining amid the COVID-19 pandemic, said president of the Barbados Road Safety Association, Sharmane Roland-Bowen, it is the possible reduction of accidents and road fatalities.

Roland-Bowen noted the drastic reduction in vehicular traffic on Barbados’ roads, especially during peak times – 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“We are monitoring that and have noticed there are fewer vehicles on the roads. Not only that – there are also fewer people congregating in places like bars [drinking alcohol] and this could mean a reduction in the number of road accidents and fatalities,” she said. (CA)
