No land tax penalty at this time
Barbadians need not fear any penalties from late land tax payments.
Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ryan Straughn this morning gave the assurance that Government would not be going after tardy landowners, not when they are dealing with reducing the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Straughn said although the last day of payment for land tax is March 31, an extension would be granted as Barbados remains in a state of emergency due to Stage 3 of the Barbados National Preparedness Plan for COVID-19 being implemented.
He also urged Barbadians who are eligible to receive reverse tax credits and compensatory tax relief to apply online to the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA).
“We are encouraging you to pay because we want to quickly as is humanly possible, to start making payments to these persons,” the minister said.
Straughn reminded citizens that if the claims are submitted electronically it would reduce the need for physical visits to BRA offices, especially since only skeleton staff will be on hand. (BA)
