Vendors who operate near the City Centre Mall, in Bridgetown were told to stop plying their trade early Tuesday morning.

Lucy Jean-Pierre, one of the longtime vendors in the area, told Nation News the police officer who gave the order, said they were not providing an essential service, so they needed to leave.

She said since she only sold fruits, vegetables and ground provisions, that should be seen as essential.

Another vendor who did not give her name said if they were unable to sell for the remainder of the national shutdown, they will lose thousands of dollars.

The two-week shutdown and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew went into effect last Saturday as Barbados fights against the spread of the COVID-19 strain of the coronavirus. (TG)
