What is the plan for sports?

This is the question former world champion Ryan Brathwaite is posing to local authorities in the wake of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) halting several planned sporting events.

Brathwaite, who won the gold medal in the 110-metre hurdles at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Germany, is calling for a national initiative to support local athletes during the global crisis.

“I am surprised that I haven’t heard a lot about the sports side and the effect here in Barbados. I know the Government officials are trying to help with the health side of it and making sure people are safe, but sports should have a strategic plan for the athletes transitioning from amateur to professional,” Brathwaite told Saturday Sport.
