Down a notch
A leading international watchdog for tax transparency and information sharing in more than 160 countries has lowered its ranking of Barbados.
But investigations revealed that the Global Forum On Transparency And Exchange Of Information For Tax Purposes’ decision, to move the country from “largely compliant” to “partially compliant”, had not included Government’s recent enhancement of several relevant laws and regulations.
On Monday, the Global Forum announced it made the change following a new peer review of countries’ compliance with the international standard on transparency and exchange of information on request (EOIR).
It outlined the decision in a 92-page report and said it was was based on how Barbados performed between July 2015 and June 2018.
