Masters Classic blow

Organisers of the Barbados Invitational Masters Football Classic (BIMFC) will be forced to stage a scaled-down version of the event next year.

Word of this came from chairman Melvin “Ibo” Oxley, following the announcement of the cancellation of the four-day tournament scheduled for May 29 to June 1 because of the deadly coronavirus pandemic which has killed thousands worldwide.

Thirty-six clubs participated in the inaugural competition last year and up until the April 30 deadline for registration, the promoters had seen an increase in teams, including from Brazil, Ireland, Argentina, Europe, Canada, the United States and the Caribbean.

However, due to travel restrictions and islandwide curfews, the Masters Classic will now take place from May 21- 24, 2021 with a number of changes to ensure social distancing.
