Barbados’ teaching fraternity is mourning the loss of former Chief Education Officer, Wendy Griffith-Watson.
The affable Griffith-Watson, who was also a former principal of The St Michael School, passed away late last night after struggling with ill health for a few months.
On most social media platforms, former teachers, educators and staff of the Ministry of Education offered their condolences to the family of the veteran educator.
Griffith-Watson was recognised for her contribution to education and human resource management in Barbados and was was presented with the Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
She rose through the education ranks from the post of teacher to head of department, deputy principal and principal and eventually became Barbados’ first female Chief Education Officer in 1997. Along the way, she taught at Springer Memorial, St George Secondary and The St Michael School.
She leaves to mourn husband John and son Andre. (BA)
