A charity worker says he has uncovered one of the worst cases of poverty he has encountered in Barbados.

Throughout his rounds delivering food hampers to people in need, Jordan English was informed of 39-year-old Katura Luke and her four children – a 17-year-old, twins who are turning nine today and a three-year-old – who were living in deplorable conditions at Diamond Valley, St Philip.

The 23-year-old Jordan yesterday summoned the media to the house to highlight the situation as he called on the relevant Government agencies and corporate Barbados to assist the family as a matter of urgency.

“We came two weeks ago and left seven chickens, cereal, a whole heap of stuff, but because we were on the run we didn’t stop. However [Sunday] night there was a situation at play that was drawn to our attention and that was when we really understood the full length of the situation – no electricity, no stove, no beds; there is nothing. The house is covered in bottles and old stuff,” he revealed. (MB)
