Electronic payment of NIS short-term benefits from September

The National Insurance Office will stop issuing cheques for the payment of short-term benefits, such as unemployment, maternity and sickness from September 1, 2020.

Clients who register or apply for any type of benefit, have been asked to submit their bank or credit union account details to receive their payments electronically.

A statement said claimants of all National Insurance Scheme (NIS) benefits with bank or credit union accounts (Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Ltd, City of Bridgetown Co-operative Credit Union Ltd, Barbados Workers’ Union Co-operative Credit Union Ltd) are encouraged to download the NIS Direct Deposit form from the NIS website www.nis.gov.bb.

Claimants should upload scanned copies of the direct deposit form and the header of the bank statement to Directdepositforms@bginis.gov.bb. Alternatively, they may also submit completed forms to the Customer Service Front Desk at the Frank Walcott Building, Culloden Road, St Michael. (BGIS)
