Government will continue to assist vulnerable families enrolled in the Adopt A Family Programme, however, it is closed to new entrants.

Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Alies Jordan, said assistance would continue for those who had already received three monthly payments.

In a statement issued through Barbados Government Information Service, Jordan said the uploads to the debit cards issued to families would continue on a monthly basis for a further three months, subject to a review of their household circumstances.

The programme, which was originally intended to help 1 500 families for three months, has assisted 3 453 families, supported by donations from companies, charities and individuals, including many Barbadians living abroad.

She thanked all those who have contributed to the programme: “Our interest in these vulnerable families shows our commitment to take action to be our brother’s keeper.”

In addition, Jordan thanked colleagues in the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, the COVID-19 Implementation Unit and the Household Mitigation Unit for ensuring that the most vulnerable households received assistance.

Donations can be made to account number 1001193982, at CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, Broad Street, under the title Ministry of Finance Adopt a Family. (PR)
