Prayers for Demarco

Family, friends and wellwishers accompanied Tricia Gibbs and religious leaders on Monday at a prayer session for her son Demarco Gibbs.

Demarco, 10, was hospitalised on June 14 after reportedly being struck in the head with pieces of wood by four of his playmates.

The police at Black Rock Station, St Michael are investigating.

He was initially released from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) after spending more than two weeks in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and two more weeks on a ward, but recently he complained of feeling ill and fell into a coma again while being treated at the QEH.

There was an outporing of support on the Nation’s social media platforms last week in response to video of a pained Gibbs crying out for justice for her son. Gibbs was told by doctors last week that Demarco, who was in ICU fighting for his life, had sustained brain damage.

At the prayer session, which was held near his Richmond Gap, St Michael home, the pastors offered prayers on behalf of Demarco. There was also singing and lighting of candles.

Stephanie Chase, a teacher, who launched an online petition last week, seeking justice for Demarco, was also present.

Plans are reportedly in the works for a march for Demarco on August 9 at 4 p.m., starting at Jubilee Gardens, The City. (KG)
