A leading Anglican cleric is urging all Barbadians to band together to transform the unjust structures of society, challenging violence of every kind, and promoting peace and reconciliation.

Archdeacon of the Diocese of Barbados, The Venerable Eric Lynch, threw out the challenge during his sermon yesterday at St Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Seawell, Christ Church, where he was the guest speaker at their 190th anniversary celebrations.

Speaking under the theme Reaching Out, Reaching Lives, Bringing Light To Our Community, he told the congregation the time to begin the transformation was now, as the need for such change was urgent.

“Can we continue to destroy ourselves from within with the level of violence that is happening? – the violence in which so many of our young are currently engaged it seems. How can we with targeted responses, examine scientifically, what is our situation and what is driving the violence in our society, and then work with the authorities hand in hand . . . to change what is happening as we seek to enhance the quality of life we experience here?” he queried.
