Plea to parents
Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw is urging parents to help make the restart of school as seamless as possible when classes resume next week after a six-month break.
She is also calling on them to volunteer to be monitors, as announced by Governor General Dame Sandra Mason in Tuesday’s Throne Speech, to assist with ensuring the COVID-19 protocols are adhered to, such as the children properly wearing masks and social distancing before, during and after school hours.
“A number of parents have already volunteered [to be monitors] and we encourage parents to continue to do so, being mindful that the Ministry of Education or the Government of Barbados cannot do everything.
“This is a call to all stakeholders to reach out to the schools and see whether or not there is a role they can play. It isn’t about the money alone or the stipend. It has to also be about playing a part in making sure the students can return to the school environment safely,” she said. (RA)
