Environmental issues again caused the problem-plagued Lawrence T. Gay Memorial Primary School to close yesterday, the latest closure in the long, troubled history of the school.
Before noon, the Ministry of Education issued a notice that stated: “Parents and guardians of students attending the Lawrence T Gay Memorial Primary School are advised that the school has been closed, due to external odours affecting students and staff on the compound. Parents and guardians whose children were having face-to-face classes are therefore asked to collect them from the school.”
Reports reached the Saturday Sun around 9:30 a.m. that there was a problem at the Spooners Hill, St Michael school and the children and teachers were outside.
When a team arrived at the school, students were sheltering from the rain.
At around 9:40 a.m., first vice-president of the Barbados Union of Teachers, Richmark Cave, who teaches at the school, said he was first alerted to the issue when he was at a funeral. (CA)
