Curb violence by ‘helping police’
Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams is appealing to Barbadians to get comfortable with the idea of “informing to the police”, saying this was one of the surest ways for law enforcement to quickly wrestle the scourge of gun violence to the ground.
His comments came in response to Tuesday’s brazen robbery at gun point at one of the major landmarks of his Christ Church East constituency, Roy Smith’s Shop.
“I have not spoken to the owner because he is actually overseas at the moment, but I have spoken to one of the workers at the shop and, understandably, they are shaken because nobody likes it when violence comes to your doorsteps. I am sorry that they had to go through that.
“I must also say that the time has come for people to start informing on other people in Barbados. If you know of persons committing crimes in your community, then you owe it to the rest of the community to speak to the police. (CLM)
