Drug Service notice on Metformin

Date:

Share post:

Metformin products, used to treat diabetes, currently supplied through the Barbados Drug Service in the public pharmacies and the private participating pharmacies, are not included in those being recommended for recall by the United States Food and Drug Administration.

The Barbados Drug Service (BDS) has said that any non-formulary metformin preparations entering the Barbados market through non-approved sources cannot be guaranteed by the Drug Service.

Patients who are currently controlled on metformin are firmly advised to continue taking their medication unless otherwise advised by their physician.  (BDS/BGIS)
