Security will be beefed up at St Leonard’s Boys’ School after four masked men attempted to steal the safe early yesterday morning.

Chairman of the board of management, Chris Gibbs, said the safety of staff and students was a priority.

According to reports, around 5 a.m., the four broke into the Richmond Gap, St Michael school but left empty-handed because the safe was too heavy to lift.

“From what I know, there was an attempt to break into the offices, but they were unsuccessful however in taking the safe. They ran off but nobody was hurt, so that is the important thing,” Gibbs said.

School had to be called off and students were turned away at the gate as police carried out investigations. (TG)
