Nomination Day: A bit of anxiety for Moore
A significant moment for the people of St George North and a significant time for the labour movement of Barbados. This is how Barbados Labour Party (BLP) candidate Toni Moore sums up her feelings after completing her nomination to contest the St George North by-election next month.
“I could not help but feel a little bit of anxiety this morning and this is because of the weight of the responsibility and the recognition of the effort, commitment and work that lies ahead. This all comes weighing down as I approach another milestone in this journey, I am humble enough to admit that this journey and process this morning has fortified by determination and my commitment to serve the working class people of Barbados, to serve their families and to ensure that all Barbadians can have a better life… I look forward to the challenge, I embrace it and I offer my utmost to the people of Barbados,” Moore said on Monday.
She was accompanied by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, the majority of the BLP Parliamentary group and a large crowd of supporters. The procession started at Moore’s constituency office in Glebe, St George, and made its way to the Valley Resource Centre to complete the process with Returning Officer Winston Estwick.
Moore was proposed by the man she hopes to succeed, Gline Clarke, who is stepping away from elective politics to serve as Barbados’ High Commission to Canada. Granville Leach was the seconder. (CLM)
