Chase up to role as Test vice-captain
Though surprised that he has been elevated to the position of Test vice-captain for the tour of New Zealand, Roston Chase said he planned to take the opportunity with both hands and use it to spur him to greater performances.
The Daily Nation understands that Chase has replaced compatriot and long-serving opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite in the position for the Test series against the Black Caps.
Chase, a 28-year-old batsman and part-time off-spinner, has played 35 Tests for the Windies over the last four years, scoring 1 852 runs at an average of 30.86 and taking 69 wickets at 41.15 apiece.
“When I got the call from head coach Phil Simmons, he told me that he had a chat with the selectors and the board, and they agreed that I was the player for the vice-captaincy role for the tour,” Chase said. (AR)
