The Barbados Turf Club has announced on its Facebook Page that the highly-anticipated night racing event scheduled for today, Independence Day, has been cancelled.

A brief statement said: “Please be advised that the race meeting which was scheduled to be held on Monday 30th, 2020 has been postponed. An official notice with the details will be published in due course.

CEO.”

Last week it was noted that all systems were a go for the David Seale Racing Nite, which was slated for the historic Garrison Savannah.

The 6 p.m. feature event would have been the first night-racing in the country’s history, and chief executive officer and secretary of the Barbados Turf Club (BTC), Rosette Peirce, had revealed there was no longer concern about the state of the track, which officials were forced to remedy after it was damaged.

Rains throughout the preceding week had rendered track conditions extremely soft for the Pinnacle Feeds Midsummer Creole Classic race day held on November 14. (LY)
