Deviant children ‘have rights too’
Even children who find themselves on the wrong side of the law have rights and should be heard.
This is according to Children’s Champion, Faith Marshall-Harris, who said even children who run afoul of the law cannot be ignored.
“We also have to listen to cries of distress from those children who may be on the wrong side of the law, who may be remanded to the Government Industrial School,” she said while giving an update of the Faith Marshall-Harris Sandy Lane Charitable Trust Helpline.
“We can’t assume that they can have no redress and no rights so that whatever happens to them they deserve.
“We have to listen to the cries of distress from children who appear to be engaged in wrongdoing but are doing so because it is the life that they live. We can’t ignore them or write them off.” (MB)
