A Class Batteries Bayley’s Primary School romped to victory by 49 runs over fellow St Philip team Pickwick Juniors to capture the inaugural Young Stars T20 Challenge Cup for players under 12 years of age.

Knocks of 38 from captain Javion Batson and 32 by the tournament’s Most Valuable Player Shai Thorne powered Bayley’s to 122 for four to which Pickwick could only respond with 73 for seven before an encouraging crowd at the Sheffield Cricket Club in Lower Estate, St. George.

Off-spinner Dhaniram Dharamedo led a disciplined Bayley’s bowling attack that also showcased seven-year-old leg-spinner Kymani Inniss, who impressed with his excellent flight and control.

Dharamedo captured three wickets, including two off successive deliveries, for four runs in four overs.  (WH)
