Christmas came a little early for Deshon Gibson and his family yesterday.
But he does not mind, because the 14-year-old, who has a rare condition called desmoid fibromatosis, is happy he is finally on his way to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami for medical attention.
In November, the Nation highlighted the large tumour growing on his left arm near his shoulder, which affected the use of that hand.
With the support of his parents Sharon Gibson and Desmond Mullin, he went through several procedures, including 22 blood transfusions, surgeries and chemotherapy and spent many days at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). His condition prevented him from attending the Ellerslie School. (TG)
