The prison officer who was accused of bringing contraband into Dodds Prisons has been reinstated and her attorney is demanding a public apology as well as financial compensation for the damage done to her reputation and other losses.
On September 23, this year, Magistrate Elwood Watts, sitting at the District “C” Magistrates’ Court, dismissed the case which Prison Authorities brought against Cathy-Ann Blunte, a prison officer with 14 years’ experience, who was charged with taking five bottles of tattoo ink – prohibited items – into HMP Dodds on August 22, 2019, without lawful authority.
When contacted, lead attorney Michael Lashley QC, who represented Blunte along with Simon Clarke and Lizanne Nelson, said that earlier this month, Blunte, a Prison Officer II, received a letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs advising her
to return to work.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Public Affairs and the Barbados Prison Service regret any inconvenience caused to Ms Blunte due to the oversight in this matter,” the correspondence said. (MB)
