Forde cracking down on landowners

Minister of the Environment Adrian Forde says he is at his wits’ end with landowners who default on cleaning their lots and is prepared to bring legislation to have a new ticketing system introduced to get them up to par.

“This is unacceptable in Barbados. There is no beauty in having an iconic song Beautiful Barbados and Barbados is being in an ugly state. This is not who we are and this is not the acceptable level. A warning is being sent out from me today. I will be taking a zero-tolerance approach and I will make sure the legislation becomes available where Government can do something about those persons legally or otherwise,” he said.

Forde was speaking in relation to Lisa Boyce-Harvey, who earlier this week brought to this newspaper’s attention an overgrown neighbouring lot that had been posing both an environmental and health challenge to her 90-year-old grandmother in Montrose Gardens, Christ Church.  (RA)
