Categories for COVID-19 testing

Article by Kendy

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has reminded the public that there are established categories and timelines for receiving coronavirus (COVID-19) tests and results.

Category One: Primary contacts – Royal Barbados Police Force personnel; wardens and inmates at Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds; Barbados Defence Force personnel; Barbados Fire service personnel; all medical personnel; border security – immigration officers; customs officers; Barbados Port Inc. officers; Grantley Adams International Airport Inc. officers (inclusive of security); patients awaiting tests for medical treatment; patients in elder care facilities.

Results for people in this category are expected within 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health has designated the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory’s Testing Facility and the Branford Taitt Polyclinic, Black Rock, St Michael as the testing centres for Category One.

Category 2: Inbound and outbound visitors can expect results within 24 to 48 hours.

Category 3: Secondary and tertiary contacts are expected to receive their results within 48 hours.

Category 4: People who health officials consider to have a general curiosity and who decide they want to be tested for COVID-19 – will receive their test results in 72 hours. (BGIS)
