Some farmers see challenge supplying Govt
Some farmers say Government’s proposal to work with them during the coming lockdown could prove to be challenging.
It comes in the wake of last Thursday’s announcement by Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw that Government wanted take some of the excess stock off farmers’ hands to include in the 60 000 care packages that will be distributed to vulnerable people during the two-week period. Farmers will be among the groups allowed to continue operations during the February 3 to 17 lockdown.
Bradshaw said they would be working very closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and the farmers.
“The intention is that they will be able to take their produce to the packing house provided by the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation and they will facilitate the receipt of those items, obviously at a cost,” she said. (RA)
