WI wary of Bangladesh at home

West Indies’ head coach Phil Simmons says his players are aware of Bangladesh’s home strengths but must capitalise on their lack of international cricket during the opening Test which starts tomorrow at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

It will be the first time Bangladesh are playing competitive Test cricket since the COVID-19 pandemic caused havoc across the globe while the Windies have toured England and New Zealand last year.

However, Simmons admits Bangladesh are a difficult team to beat on home soil.

“Bangladesh will always have the edge no matter who they play at home because they are a strong side at home even though they haven’t played cricket over a year. I don’t know about [the players being rusty]. You can have lack of international cricket but you could be practising and training properly and that takes away the rust.” I don’t think it will give us the edge,” Simmons told reporters during a live zoom press conference yesterday morning.
