Governor General Dame Sandra Mason and Chief Justice Sir Patterson Cheltenham are both in self quarantine after two people associated with their staff were exposed to the COVID-19 virus.

Prime Minister Mia Mottley made the announcement in an unexpected appearance via Zoom during Thursday’s COVID-19 management update which was streaming live to the nation.

Mottley said a member of the Governor General’s staff tested positive for the virus. She and her family are in quarantine pending the results of a second test. The first was negative.

As a result, everyone was removed from Government House so sanitising could be done.

Meanwhile, Sir Patterson did not require a COVID test because there was no direct contact. In his case, a close contact of someone who works with him is exhibiting symptoms of the virus.

Mottley again told Barbadians that COVID “ain’t playing” and urged them to take the precautions to fight the virus. (SAT)
