Barbados recorded 39 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, February 17, out of the 967 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The cases included samples dating back to February 9. There were 54 recoveries which brought the number of active cases to 811.

The 39 new cases comprised 24 women and 15 men. Seven of them had already been at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility undergoing assessment to determine whether their positive PCR test result showed that they were in fact newly positive, or whether they had COVID in the past and were no longer infectious.

The 32 other cases were Barbadians.

The total number of people diagnosed as positive at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds remained at 363. Of these, 361 recovered and the remaining two inmates are included in the active cases.

To date, Barbados has recorded 2 647 confirmed cases – 1 211 females and 1 436 males – and 1 807 people had recovered. The number of deaths from COVID-19 remained at 29.

The public health laboratory has so far completed 118 636 tests.

There were 2 432 people vaccinated on Wednesday as part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19. To date, a total of 9 115 vaccinations have been administered – 4 937 women and 4 178 men. (BGIS)
